Car Emergency Kit
When traveling you should always be prepared to get stranded, especially when traveling to or through remote locations or during cold winter months. This is why I always keep an emergency kit in the back of my car. Here’s what’s in our…
YEAR ROUND ITEMS:
Food and Water – High protein meal bars (ones that won’t melt in the heat) & a couple sweet treats like gummies. Water in a larger bottle (rather than small water bottles) so it doesn’t freeze as easily.
First Aid Kit – Ours is from MyMedic and we love it! Because my husband and I both have emergency medical training we have the pro version, but they also have first aid kits where everything is color coded and has directions to make them simple and easy to use for anyone!
Portable Car Battery Jumper – This is so important to have in your car when traveling, especially if driving through remote locations. I have had my car battery die in the middle of nowhere while camping alone with my kids and lucky I was able to make it back with this! I HIGHLY recommend. This one is currently on sale for under $50!
Emergency Blankets – I keep these in my car year round because they are cheap and take up no room.
LED Road Flares or Road Flares (optional) - There often is no shoulder or spot to pull off the road in Maine so I also keep a pair of these in my car. Working in the ER made me a little paranoid.
ADDITIONALS FOR WINTER MONTHS:
Snow Shovel & Kitty Litter – If you live somewhere that gets snow or ice this is useful to have to help dig yourself out if you get stuck.
Hand Warmerse- I prefer the disposable ones for this so I don’t have to worry about them having a charge.
Winter Gloves & Hat - Incase you have to dig yourself out, put chains on your tire, ect make sure you have something to keep your hands warm!
Blanket - If you live somewhere cold having in insulating blanket in addition to emergency blankets are a great idea.
Portable Air Compressor/Pump – Plug into your car and inflate a flat tire. Much easier and quick than putting on a spare tire when its cold.
